Defence

President: Jan Kleian, ACOM (The Netherlands)
Vice-President: Wilhelm Waldner, GÖD-FCG (Austria)

The falling apart of the Soviet Union has had a great influence on the reduction of the Armed Forces in the Western World. NATO and the WEU had to redefine their profiles; new East-West relations came into existence and urged the Trade Council to pay special attention to the social problems of the Staffs of Defence in the Eastern European countries.

The conversion of the army of conscripts into an army of professionals and the institution of supranational army units changed the social position of the civilian and military Staffs of Defence considerably.

EUROFEDOP follows with the utmost attention the social accompanying programmes that exist in the various European countries.

The right of organization and the right of meeting and a proper social statute are not yet a fact within the armed forces. Those matters need to be urgently regulated.

EUROFEDOP is recognized as a reliable and experienced discussion partner on the European forum. Thanks to this position, we can look forward with great hopes towards the realization of our project for a European platform where the trade union organizations can negotiate with the European political authorities on the working conditions and circumstances for the Staffs of Defence.
